Throughout its 180 years of history Marzotto has intertwined in-depth knowledge of the material and manual skills with research and innovation. 1836

Luigi Marzotto

Luigi Marzotto founds a small wool weaving factory in Valdagno. This is the start of a great Italian history.

1842

Gaetano Marzotto

With 200 workers, 80 machines and handlooms, the small craft business becomes an important industrial company.

1866

Mutual Aid

Marzotto is already a pioneer in its ethical vision: the first Mutual Organisation dedicated to craftsmen and to its factory workers is founded in Valdagno.

1869

Engineering and investments

By investing in mechanisation of the weaving process with steam turbines, Marzotto confirms its position as a leading industrial company.

1880

Vittorio Emanuele Marzotto

Planning and building of the weaving factory in Maglio, near Valdagno, begins under the guidance of Vittorio Emanuele Marzotto. While Italian industry is still producing carded yarn, Marzotto moves on to combed yarn.

1890

International exports

In 1890 the first exports of industrial yarns to the Danube-Balkan region take place, followed by those to South American markets.

1915

Continuous cycle

With further investments and 12 new hydroelectric plants, the new continuous production cycle, from bale to finished fabric, commences.

1922

Gaetano Jr.

The period of time between 1894 and 1972 represents the beginning of a new era under the direction of Gaetano Marzotto, a visionary entrepreneur and pioneer of the most innovative technologies.

1927

The train

The railway network covers the whole of Italy, representing an important goal for the economy and society. Marzotto starts to build its own corporate railway line to eliminate distances, facilitate the workforce, transport raw materials and travel more easily and quickly.

1931

3.759 workers

Marzotto becomes a multinational leading company in Italy and worldwide. The number of workers it employs increases constantly, and so does the value of a brand destined to make history in the textile sector.

1940

The decade

Between 1930 and 1940 Marzotto confirms its position as leading national manufacturer of woollen yarns and fabrics, accounting for 40 to 50% of Italian wool exports, and in particular of worsted fabrics destined for the major world markets. The “Social City” dedicated to workers, districts and homes designed for employees, cultural, entertainment and sports activities, investments in the economic development of Italian colonies: with its commitment to support all its workers and their families, Marzotto becomes a symbol of liberation and of social stability. In those years, more than 1000 homes are built to accommodate around 5,000 people, as well as workers’ social clubs, music schools, a kindergarten, an orphanage, a health centre, a retirement home, a stadium, a movie theatre, gyms, student accommodation and an Olympic pool.

1950

Clothing

At the beginning of the 1950s the brand evolves, integrating the production of yarns and fabrics with the manufacture of clothing. “I normally wear Marzotto” is the historic slogan from the first television and advertising campaigns in Italy.

1970

Foundation, Marzotto Award, Divisions

In the 1960s the Marzotto Award, dubbed “Italian little Nobel prize” by the press, and the Marzotto Foundation are established. Simultaneously, through the creation of independent international divisions, a modernisation of the corporate structure, which will prove crucial from a strategic and organisational point of view, commences.

1994

Stretch

The new menswear collection marks a watershed between past and future: Stretch, one of the most innovative fabrics is launched; a short time later Natural Stretch, a futuristic fabric conceived to exalt and emphasise the high-performing properties of wool, with maximum comfort, is placed on the market.

2002

100% machine washable wool

A ground-breaking new fabric is placed on the market: it is made of machine washable wool.

2010

Scudo Collection

The Scudo Collection is created: this is a line of fabrics coupled with high-performance membranes, designed for those wishing to combine luxury, elegance and functionality.

2012

Verticalization of the supply chain

Marzotto acquires a shareholding in Pettinatura di Verrone, a world leader in the processing of fine fibres.

2018

From farm to fabric

Through the partnership with Schneider Australia and Schneider New Zealand, international wool traders in which Marzotto acquires a shareholding, full control of the whole production supply line is established: global product traceability becomes the compass that guides Marzotto’s research and activities.

2019

B-Dynamic

B-Dynamic is a 100% natural wool fabric with two-way stretch both in warp and in weft, a new product that combines innovation and elegance with the best anti-crease performance for every movement of every day
